People’s United Bank

Local impact that matters!

Once again we were joined by a wonderful group of volunteers from People’s United Bank and we were delighted to have them. This time they helped a single mom of five young children. The five-year old needed a wheelchair ramp so Mom could easily get him in and out of the house so he could attend the Nassau County Cerebral Palsy School. Lots of other repairs were also being done and we are happy to know that this young family is safer and warmer. So glad we could help and thank you to our friends at People’s.

Costello’s Ace Hardware

To The Rescue

Rome may not have been build in a day, but this ramp sure was!!!

When our friends at Costello’s heard about a previously healthy young man in his forties suffered a debilitating stroke and now needed a wheelchair ramp, they immediately jumped in and supplied not only the lumber to construct the ramp, but sent a team of skilled workers to work with the RTLI team. Thanks to their help and support, this young man can now be released from rehab and continue his recovery at home. Great team and great people!

Hometown Insurance agency Association of Mature American Citizens

It was a cold, wet day but that didn’t stop our friends at Hometown & AMAC for helping us get the job done. A little bad weather and a snake or two never deterred them from the job at hand to help a neighbor who was so overwhelmed with the weeds and shrubs on his property, but was not physically able to handle the job. It was a great team effort and we hope they’ll join us again next year. Job well done!

Berdon LLP

Listen ….. Solve ….. Do, the Berdon LLP motto and words to live by! That’s exactly what they did for a sweet couple in Malverne who needed a helping hand. They listened to their needs, came up with a solution and put the plan into action by doing the work. Not only did the Berdon Cares team joined us for a day of service, but Berdon sponsored the project as well. It was a tremendous day of hard work in the hot sun, but they built a ramp and cleaned up the yard. The couple’s son said “My mom is already sitting outside enjoying the new deck and the backyard, which she has not been able to do since she broke her hip five years ago.” That is why we do what we do and it’s all the thanks we need!!

Thank You Nassau County Bar Association

Each year, the Nassau County Bar Association joins us in a Day of Service. Attorneys, as well as their family and friends, join our volunteers and experience the joy of “repairing it forward”! On a very hot and humid day in July, they rolled up their sleeves at our project site in Elmont to lend a hand to Richard so that we could make his home safe once again and improve his quality of life. Thanks to the generosity of the Bar’s We Care Fund, they also sponsored the project. We greatly appreciate and value their help. What a wonderful group of people.

Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Shelter Rock

Congregational Church of Manhasset

We are so fortunate to have these two wonderful groups join us once again this year. There’s no job too big or small. From removing a collapsed garage, to installing new flooring, to repairing sheetrock, they got the job done quickly and easily. From the bottom of our hearts,we thank you!

PSEG Long Island

When they’re not busy serving their customers, the employees of PSEG are happy to give back to their communities. While they have assisted many non-profits this year, they were eager to put on their work clothes and join us in Bayshore to ensure that a legally blind homeowner is safe not just within her home, but that she has a safe way to enter and exit her home. It was a fun day of service and we are very grateful to our friends at PSEG LI. We hope to see them next year too!

Long Island Board of Realtors

Since 2005, our long-time friends and supporters at LIBOR, have been committed to working with RTLI and serving their communities across our Island. Each year they sponsor a project and a commit to a Day of Service to work in the field with our volunteers. This year, they were thrilled to help Frank, a long-time resident of Franklin Square and a Korean War veteran. Frank is 87 years young and due to some health issues, he can no longer use his walker and now needs a wheelchair. Without a ramp, he would not have been able to leave his home. The team was only too happy to assist Frank as a way to thank him for his service.

Whelan Foundation

Without the kindness and support of wonderful people, we would not be able to accomplish our work.  We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Whelan Foundation for sponsoring a project to help a neighbor in need in Medford.  Mrs. H. is the caregiver for her dear husband, but without a wheelchair ramp, it was becoming difficult for her and their children to safely bring Mr. H. out of the home.  In addition to caring for her husband, Mrs. H. also works full time and was not able to make necessary repairs to the home and modifications, until she contacted RTLI!  Thanks to the dedication of our Suffolk volunteers and the funding provided by the Whelan Foundation, we were able to make a difference and help our Medford neighbors.

Berdon LLP

We welcome Berdon LLP to our family of corporate sponsors.  A leading accounting and advisory firm, the Berdon team listens to their clients issues, solves their problems and then executes a solution to the highest degree.  We thank them for sponsoring a project in Roosevelt for a client in desperate need of a wheelchair ramp.  Mr. & Mrs. C. are forever grateful for their kindness, their generosity and willingness to lend a hand.

HONEYWELL

With the financial support of Honeywell and their wonderful employees who worked side-by-side with the RTLI volunteer work crews, we made significant improvements to a home in Hempstead for Mommas House. Mommas provides a safe haven and a loving, nurturing environment for single young women and their babies for up to two years so the mom's can finish their schooling and vocational training. We are so grateful to them for what they do and to Honeywell for their generous support and the outstanding work of their employees."

Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Shelter Rock

United Congregational Church of Manhasset

We are forever grateful to the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Shelter Rock and the United Congregational Church of Manhasset for sponsoring this project.  With their help, we were able to complete this ramp for a neighbor in need.  It was a wonderful day working side-by-side with these caring people who give so freely of their time.

Nassau County Bar Association

For years, we have had the generous support of the Nassau County Bar Associations We Care Fund to sponsor a project.  Not only do they contribute financially, but their team made up of attorneys, paralegals and administrative staff participate in a Day of Service to work side by side with our volunteers to help a neighbor in need.  This June, on a hot and humid day, this wonderful group worked hard to help a couple in Glen Cove by constructing a wheelchair so they would have safe access into their home.  Our appreciation is boundless!  Thank You!
